For more than 15 years, Mary Beth Vasco has worked with federal, state, and local government officials on a wide variety of emergency planning, management, and recovery issues, covering both technological and natural hazards. Her experience includes researching associated legal issues and writing legal guides for lay people. Employed by Argonne since 1994, Ms. Vasco provides technical and legal assistance to the Joint Army/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP). She researches programmatic issues from a multidisciplinary perspective to enhance the planning, implementation, and tracking of emergency response and recovery capabilities.
Ms. Vasco also spent two years at the U.S. Department of Energy Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site, where she developed and sustained an emergency management structure for 12 nuclear facilities. Her current and past work for Department of Homeland Security/FEMA Headquarters and Region VIII includes developing the foundation for formulation of national policies and procedures for planning, training, and exercising; public affairs support and public information training; program management; and provision of liaison, coordination, and oversight among numerous government agencies.
Ms. Vasco received a J.D. in Energy and Environmental Law from the University of Tulsa College of Law and a B.S. in Man-Environment Relations from Pennsylvania State University. She is certified in Occupational Safety and Health hazardous waste operations and is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Oklahoma.
