James A. St. Aubin
Group Leader and Computer Systems Engineer
Modeling, Simulation, and Visualization Group
Decision and Information Sciences Division
Argonne National Laboratory

As Group Leader in the DIS Division, James St. Aubin is responsible for providing technical direction, leadership, focus, coordination, and support of modeling, simulation, and visualization research and development programs. He has extensive experience in the design, development, testing, and documentation of evolving information systems technology, agent-based and object-oriented applications, distributed databases, and data warehouses.
Mr. St. Aubin has almost 30 years of experience in the technical design, development, and implementation of computer applications and databases. He has successful client project experience within various private industries (e.g., insurance, banking, computer hardware and software, consumer products) and U.S. government agencies (e.g., Departments of Homeland Security, Defense, Energy, Veterans Affairs).
Since 2003, Mr. St. Aubin has continued to perform the cross-functional role of project manager (principal investigator and program manager) and database architect for Procter & Gamble’s virtual market learning lab. The virtual lab is an innovative, computational, agent-based model of consumer markets developed for P&G. This capability represents a new milestone at the forefront of agent-based consumer market modeling technology in terms of its extraordinary detail, broad coverage, and the large number of agents considered. Some of these advances have resulted in a joint Argonne/P&G patent application titled, “Methods of Creating and Using a Virtual Consumer Packaged Goods Marketplace.”
Mr. St. Aubin received an MBA with an Information Systems Concentration from Lewis University and a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. To stay current with technology advancements, he has continued to improve his technical skills by completing technology-based coursework in relational and object-oriented database, application design and coding, and geographic information systems (GIS) at Milwaukee Area Technical College, College of DuPage, and numerous software company-sponsored training (e.g., Oracle, IBM, Rational, Ingres, Forte).
