Training Course: Introduction to the Energy and Power Evaluation Program (ENPEP-BALANCE)
Monday, September 22 - Friday, September 26, 2008
Argonne Building 900, 1200 Internationale Parkway, Woodridge, IL
Overview: The Windows version of the Energy and Power Evaluation Program (ENPEP-BALANCE) is the premier energy systems analysis software in use in over 80 countries. ENPEP-BALANCE was developed by CEEESA with support from the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE). ENPEP-BALANCE allows users to evaluate the entire energy system (supply and demand side) and evaluate environmental implications of different energy strategies. The latest ENPEP-BALANCE version takes full advantage of the Windows operating environment.
Format and Topics: An intensive series of lectures and hands-on laboratories will be used to introduce the foundational ideas of ENPEP-BALANCE. In addition, lectures will present the implementation of each of the main energy sectors within the software. Participants will learn how to implement a typical oil supply sector, a typical coal supply sector, a typical power generation sector,as well as various end user/demand sectors (industry, transport, households). During the hands-on work sessions, participants will build simplified case configurations and run a variety of scenarios to test the effects of the main model input parameters.
Who Should Attend:This is an introductory course to ENPEP-BALANCE. Anyone with interest in energy systems modeling and with limited to no experience in ENPEP-BALANCE should attend, in particular, strategic planners in energy companies or energy ministries, energy analysts, students or faculty with interest in energy analysis, energy projections, and environmental projections.
Prerequisites and Requirements:There are no prerequisites or requirements for this course. Participants will NOT need to bring their own energy statistics for this introductory course. Basic knowledge in energy systems analysis will be helpful.
Course Dates: The course dates are Monday September 22, 2008 to Friday September 26, 2008. Typically, the course runs from 9am to 5pm every day.
Course Fee: The course fee is US$2,000. Each participant will receive a binder and a CD containing the latest software installation, manual, and training materials. Lunches and break refreshments are included in the course fee. Reservations are on a first-come first-serve basis. Fees are due by August 22, 2008.
